Final Thoughts for 2004 Season

I still can't believe the season is over (already); it seems as if we just started!

I agree with everything Mr. Bridgens said after the last game. I also would like to add that I hope that the season was as much fun for all of you as it was for me.

I hope that you will be well and have a fun, safe summer.

Oh, and I shudder to think that if I am coaching next year that I may have to coach against some/many of you!!!

Thank you once again for your hard work this season.

Best wishes,

Mr. T.

Playoff Game vs. Reds 6/13/2004

Even though we lost this game, it was definitely not because of lack of trying. We hit the ball very well, unfortunately it was right at a fielder quite often. This will happen in softball sometimes. We also were a victim of some "bad breaks" in the inning where the Reds scored four runs. Sadly, this happens sometimes, too.

Kudos to (from memory):

  • Kierstan -- pitched the entire game and did great (only two walks).

  • Martina -- drove in two runs with a clutch double and threw a runner out at third.

  • Rachael -- hit a triple.

  • Laura -- played catcher (even though she was in pain from catching previously in the day) and threw out two runners at third, even though they were called safe.

Great job, girls. Final comments for the season will be posted later.

Playoff Game vs. Yankees 6/10/2004

Not much to say about this one; we didn't play well. For some reason we had a lot of trouble catching the ball and we didn't hit until the last inning. We played a little better the last two innings, but the hole we dug for ourselves before that was just too big.

I'm sure we'll play better on Sunday at 3 PM.

Game vs. Angels 6/7/2004

Considering we were shorthanded and nearly everyone was playing out of position, we did well. There were many solid hits that I remember.

I don't have details right now, but I would like to thank Nicole for helping us out by pitching into the 7th inning. Thanks Nicole.

The playoffs begin on Thursday, June 10th at 6 PM on Field E.

Go Phillies!

See you then,

Mr. T.

Game vs. Reds 6/5/2004 (Rained out)

Hello girls,

Unfortunately, our game for today was rained out. Remember we have a game on Monday, June 7th at 6:00 PM on Field E. Please call or email Mr. and Mrs. Bridgens if you can't make it to the game.

Playoffs start on Thursday, June 10th, 6:00 PM on Field E. We are playing the Yankees (luck of the draw). When we play after then depends on whether or not we win or lose; it's double elimination (takes two losses to be eliminated from the playoffs).
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and hope to see you on Monday.

Game vs. Dodgers 5/25/2004

We were very proud of the way the team stuck together. We fielded very well, except for the fifth and the last inning. We think the fielding problems were just a lack of concentration not a lack of ability. Officially, we won that game as the score reverted to last completed inning.

Individual highlights include:

  • Lindsay Bickleman going three for four, with a run scored and an RBI.

  • Regina Paolucci going two for four with a run scored and an RBI, she hit the ball hard all four times -- but good fielding kept her of the base twice.

  • Martina Vargas got on base all four times she was up, scoring once and driving in a run.

  • Jenny Rose Bridgens was two for three, with three runs scored, two RBI's and two stolen bases.

  • Rachael Bridgens went two for two with a double and four RBI's.

  • Maggie Lowe gave us another fine pitching performance, and at the plate Maggie was three for three with a double, a run scored, two RBI's and a stolen base.

  • The game ball goes to Cordelia Vargas for getting on base all four times, with her first two hits of the year, scoring three runs. She walked two times to increase her lead in that category to ten for the year. Cordelia also got her first stolen base.

Good job, Cordelia!

Good job, girls!

Game vs. Dodgers 5/23/2004

We came up short on this one, but it wasn't because of effort. We had one bad inning in the field, which was not bad considering many of you were playing new positions. Although we only scored three runs, we did hit the ball hard often, but unfortunately right at someone.

Kudos (from memory):

  • Laura -- pitched a great game, with around 10 strikeouts.

  • Jenny Rose -- hit a double

  • Amanda -- great hustle running the bases and catching in the heat

  • Martina and Ariel -- filling in at catcher when the team needed them to

  • Nicole and Maggie T. -- coming up from the Majors to fill in so that we could field 10

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone or something. Again, you all played hard and have nothing to be ashamed of for this game.

See you on Tuesday night,

Mr. T.

Game vs. Methacton 5/22/2004

Well...what can I say. What a GREAT game!

After a very slow start, you all picked up your games, hung in there, and won! We came into the last inning behind by one run and scored two runs with two outs.

I'm going on memory here (I don't have the scorebook) so please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone. These things stand out in my mind:

  • Regina -- a good effort, pitched three innings, hit the ball very well (but was a bit unlucky to hit right at someone)

  • Rachael -- had a monster double

  • Maggie -- pitched three strong innings, and sacrificed her knees (again) to make a crucial out at home in the late innings

  • Amanda -- made a great play in the late innings on a slow roller in front of home plate and caught the entire game in extreme heat

  • Amy -- great hustle in the last inning to get to first after she struckout with two outs, allowing the game to continue and for us to score the two runs

  • Martina -- great catch in the last inning on a hard hit ball that she quickly threw to first for a double play. If this ball gets by, the game is tied with a runner on second or third with only one out.

Once again, a great effort from the third inning on, after Mr. B's "you're playing like crap" speech! :)

We're proud of you. See you on Sunday.

Mr. T.
